Rotary atomization
Atomization results from an energy source acting on a liquid. Resultant forces build up to a point where liquid break-up and disintegration occurs and individual droplets are created. Different atomization techniques apply different energy forms to the liquid feed.
In rotary atomization, the feed is centrifugally accelerated to high velocity in the atomizer wheel before being discharged into the hot drying air/ gas.
The degree of atomization and particle morphology depends upon peripheral speed, feed rate, liquid properties and atomizer wheel design. Particle size is adjusted by change of peripheral speed.
